Free & Accepted Masons - Temple Lodge No. 173
- Temple Lodge No. 173 was founded in 1897 to serve Free and Accepted Masons living in and around Westwood, New Jersey. Like every new lodge, its formation required a formal charter, which was granted by the Grand Lodge of New Jersey. In those earliest years, the brethren gathered at Haring’s Hall in Westwood.
- At the turn of the twentieth century, travel was far different than it is today. Many members made their way to meetings by foot, train, or horse and wagon. Establishing a lodge in Westwood made Masonry more accessible to local men and helped strengthen fellowship and service within the community.
- In 1923, ground was broken for the lodge’s permanent home, the same building that continues to stand today as a landmark of Temple Lodge No. 173’s presence in Westwood.
- For more than 125 years, Temple Lodge No. 173 has supported the greater Westwood area through charitable giving, volunteer efforts, and the steady work of its members. Across generations, countless local men have progressed through the three degrees of Masonry, committed to personal growth, integrity, and the principles of Free and Accepted Masonry.
- The future remains bright for Temple Lodge No. 173. Men of good character who are interested in friendship, tradition, and meaningful service are welcome to learn more about joining and beginning their own Masonic journey
